Patients are seen by scheduled appointment only. You may schedule an appointment during regular business hours. Every effort will be made to accommodate schedule requests as permitted. Typically, we are able to schedule sick appointments on a same day basis with each doctor and checkups within a few days for our newest physician and within a few weeks for our more established physicians. However, please note that popular late afternoon and first of the morning appointments may require booking farther out.
We ask that you give us 24-hour notice of any cancellations. Patients that no-show prevent us from seeing other patients during that schedule time and therefore will be subject to a no-show fee of $50 per child per each occurrence. This includes patients who arrive more than 10 minutes late for any non-urgent visit that ends up being rescheduled. Patients who have 3 or more last minute cancellations, no-shows, or late arrivals beyond 10 minutes, may be subject to termination from the practice.
If you are running late, we ask that you call to notify us of your approximate delay. If you are more than 10 mins late for an appointment, you may be asked to reschedule or will have to wait until the physician is able to work you back into the schedule depending on the nature of the visit. Please note that patients who are on time for their visits will be given priority over any patients running late, except for those having a medical emergency.

Well visits are typically conducted at 2 weeks, and months 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24, and 30, and then every year beginning at age 3. These appointments can often be scheduled at the previous well checkup visit. While most do not have to be at the exact time listed, checkups for 12 month and 4 year must be scheduled on or after the child’s date of birth because of rules applying to vaccines given at those ages.During office hours, all phone calls will be returned as soon as possible. Phone calls are returned in order of medical necessity. You will be asked to leave your name, a phone number where you can be reached and the reason for your call. We offer a prescription refill line for you to leave requests as well. If you need a refill or expect that you need a prescription, please have a pharmacy name and number ready when you call. All phone calls will be returned by the end of the day.
At Starside Pediatrics, we try to answer all phone calls in a timely fashion. Any call received during regular office hours are returned by the end of the business day. If a call is left in the general voice mailbox during business hours, it will also be returned the same day. If a call is left in the general voice mailbox after business hours, it will be returned the following business day.
For urgent issues, Starside Pediatrics uses a nurse answering service. The service is staffed by only registered nurses and calls are returned within 30 minutes. Our office physicians, or one of their call partners, is always available as backup for any issues needing additional assistance or medical advice. The answering service may be reached by calling the regular office number and following instructions.
There is no charge for calling the nurse triage line; however, a charge of $15 may be incurred if you specifically ask to speak to the on call doctor in addition to the nurse. Patients may leave a voice message in the general office mailbox at any time if they prefer to have the office call them directly during regular business hours.
Medications are prescribed on an as needed basis and typically only after being seen by the physician. Antibiotics and other new prescriptions will not be prescribed over the phone without a patient being seen as safe medical practice involves examining each patient individually to determine the right treatment needed.
Prescription refill requests are handled most efficiently by calling your pharmacy directly to request a refill. If refills remain from the original prescription, the pharmacy simply fills your prescription. If there are no refills remaining, the pharmacy will contact our office for authorization to fill the prescription. Refill requests can also be made by calling the office directly and selecting the refill phone line. You will need to leave the patient’s name, date of birth, medication to be refilled, and pharmacy number. Please allow one business day for requests to be completed.
Most ADHD medications are considered controlled substances and therefore the method of prescribing them is limited by law. At this time our office requires that these prescriptions be picked up in person. We ask that you give us 48 hours’ notice to fill these scripts as they require special prescriptions and documentation.
They must be filled by a pharmacy within 21 days from the date of the prescription. You may request a 30 day supply, or if your insurance permits and you do not anticipate a change in medication, you may request a 90 day supply.
Please remember that most tests take 24-48 hours for results to come back, and that we send tests to your insurance’s contracted laboratory. All laboratory results will be reported once we receive the information from the laboratories. Laboratory results cannot be obtained after-hours and cannot be discussed with the on-call physician.
An updated shot record will be provided free of charge after every check-up upon request. Any additional copies requested, or requesting on a date other than your checkup will be subject to a $5 charge per immunization record.
If you are moving or need a copy of your medical record for other purposes, you may request them by filling out a Medical Records Release form. This form may be downloaded from our website or picked up in person. We will also accept a medical records release from another medical office when signed by a parent or guardian. We ask that you allow up to 2 weeks to process. The form must be signed prior to release, a $25.00 fee will be charged per record and payment must be received before the records will be released.
Because of privacy concerns and HIPPA law, we will only fax medical records when requested by other physicians or medical facilities. Email is not an available option. Immunization records can be faxed with a verbal request only from the parent or legal guardian of the patient.
Complete records may only bepicked up in person or mailed. Unless otherwise specified, records will be downloaded to an electronic CD. Due to HIPAA we are unable to email records at this time. We are able to fax some documents, such as vaccine records or growth charts, to other medical offices when there are less than 15 pages requested.
Any records requested by a physician or specialist that we have referred your child to will not incur a charge.
Please be advised that we complete these forms only if a complete check-up or physical examination has been done in the past 12 months. Due to the number of forms we receive, we require up to 48 hours for completion. You may also bring the form to your visit, but depending on patient volume, you may have to return for the form.
If your child needs to see a specialist, we will provide you with the names of excellent specialists in our community. Please refer to your insurance plan listing of participating providers to ensure that the specialist is in your plan network prior to making an appointment.
Should you need insurance approval prior to your visit with the specialist, please give our office at least one week to submit the referral. Our office offers complimentary Prenatal and Meet the Doctor visits. These brief appointments are scheduled in advance and allow you to meet with the doctor, tour the office, and get a feel for the practice. We want every family to feel that they have chosen the right pediatrician for their needs.
Our pediatricians firmly believes in the value and benefit of vaccination. They recommend that all children receive the recommended childhood vaccines as outlined by the CDC and ACIP. However, they acknowledge that at times, special circumstances may arise that necessitate a modified or slightly delayed schedule and will work with families in these situations. They do advocate that all patients receive the required vaccines as they are able. In an effort to minimize exposure to other patients, Starside Pediatrics does not see children who are un-immunized or partially immunized based solely on parental preference or beliefs.
Our pediatricians have privileges at the following local hospitals where they will see patients:
